Opening
Learn online, free
Short craft films you can watch before you ever apply for anything, plus the places we send people when the best next step is not us. Free, no account, no gate.
Why this exists
Cohorts are small. The internet is not.
A cohort of twelve fills. Thousands of women will read this site and never get a place, either because the timing is wrong or because the cohort is full. Sending them away with nothing is a waste of the fact that they came.
So the craft goes online: how a camera department actually works, what a focus puller does all day, how a call sheet is read, what happens on a set before anyone turns over. Taught by people doing the job now, in the terminology used on a UK unit.
Opening. The first films are in production. Nothing is published yet and we will not pretend otherwise.
What it will cover
The things nobody explains because everyone assumes you already know.
- How a unit is put together — the departments, who reports to whom, and what each does on a shooting day.
- Reading a call sheet — the single most useful document on a production and the one nobody teaches.
- The grades explained — what the UK job titles actually mean, what each one does, and what the route between them looks like.
- Kit, honestly — what the equipment does, in plain words, before the brand names.
- On a set — etiquette, safety, radio discipline, and the unwritten rules that are obvious only once somebody says them.
- Faith on a working day — prayer, fasting, catering and dress as scheduling questions rather than special requests.
Free, and free means free
No account, no email capture before you watch, no upsell at the end. If you want to hear when new ones go up, register — but you do not have to, and nothing is withheld if you do not.
And when we are not the right door
The best next step is often somewhere else, and we would rather say so.
We keep a directory of other UK screen training, faith and community organisations, industry bodies and the union — with an honest note on what each is actually good for, including where the answer is *go here instead of us*.
Where else to go is that list. Nobody on it is a partner and being listed is not an endorsement; it is a signpost.
