Everything, in one place
About
What we do
One organisation, several doors. Here is the whole of it on a single page.
Start where you are
Some people arrive wanting a career on a unit. Some arrive holding a story and no wish to work in film at all. Some arrive with a congregation behind them. All three are the front door.
Training and technical
Taught at the grade, on real equipment, by people working in high-end drama now.
| What | Who it is for | Status |
|---|---|---|
| The Studio Simulation — a working unit, a real call sheet, real consequences | Anyone starting, including with no experience at all | Done |
| Advanced technical training — camera, grip, stabilisation, lighting, sound, DIT (digital imaging technician), remote head, multi-camera, post | People starting and people already in and stuck | Running |
| Documentary and social impact filmmaking | People with a subject they cannot let go of | Running |
| Video journalism and self-shooting | People who need to get it recorded themselves | Opening |
| Transferable skills — working to a call time, communicating across a hierarchy, solving a technical problem under pressure | Skills that carry well outside the screen sector | Running |
| Phone and podcast — the kit you already own | Anyone. Not the entrance, but a real rung | Opening |
| AI in the craft — where these tools sit on a real unit, and the questions about faith and likeness nobody else is asking | Anyone working with them, and anyone worried about them | Opening |
Making and telling
| What | Who it is for | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Story-to-Screen Lab — idea to finished piece, nine stages, co-run with Futures in Film at 3 Mills and Pinewood | Writers, journalists, filmmakers, community organisations, and people who simply hold a story | Opening |
| Community film — made with the people in it, not about them | Congregations, community organisations, groups with something to say | Running |
| Short film competitions | Anyone with an idea and no route to make it | Opening |
| Commissioned production | Organisations who need film made with communities other production companies cannot reach | Running |

Community, screenings and cohesion
| What | Who it is for | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Uniting Communities — mixed units, Jewish, Christian and Muslim women on the same production | Faith communities, and people of no faith | Running |
| Screenings and the hour afterwards — in our room, or in yours | Congregations, community groups, anyone with an audience | Opening |
| Social impact film studies — watching films that moved something, and taking them apart | Groups, schools, congregations | Opening |
| Events — talks, panels, open days | Anyone | Running |
| Host a screening in your building | Mosques, churches, synagogues, community centres | Opening |
| Where else to go — a signposted directory across the traditions and the industry | Anyone we are not the right answer for | Running |
For organisations
| What | Who it is for | Status |
|---|---|---|
| The Faith Charter and the toolkit — faith-literate production practice, written down | Productions, broadcasters, agencies | In development |
| Train your team | Broadcasters, agencies, councils, universities, faith institutions | Running |
| Finding people — introductions to crew who have worked in faith settings | Productions who need them | Opening |
| Hire the room at 3 Mills | Anyone. Hiring from an asset-locked company funds funded places | Opening |
| Employer partnership | Organisations who need the talent and want to fund the route to it | Opening |
Nationwide, not local
3 Mills Studios is the base, not the boundary. We deliver at Pinewood, in the North West, online, and wherever a community and a room can be found. Where a region needs its own hub, that is a development route rather than an obstacle.
Not sure which door?
Neither are most people. Say what you have and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right answer.
