The Studio Simulation

A working unit on a stage at 3 Mills: prep and stage build, then rehearsal and blocking, then a full simulation shoot. Every department named.

2.39:1 · 25fps · HETV

We have run this

The Dynamic Cinematography Production Simulation, 3 Mills Studios, March 2026: production, camera, grip, stabilisation and exoskeleton, sound, DIT (digital imaging technician) and behind-the-scenes, with performers from a staged-combat academy.

Everything is real except the jeopardy. A call sheet with your name and grade on it, a stage to build and strike, a 1st AD (first assistant director) calling the day and a DoP (director of photography) who will ask you for something and expect it. You are the clapper loader, the magazine is yours, and if you have not prepped it the unit waits.

The three days

The same shape every cohort. A day with us walks the floor, gate to wrap.

Day one · prep and stage build

Passes at the gate, walked in together: fire points, prayer and quiet space, unit base. The call sheet read line by line. Then the floor with the grips, camera prep on the bench, distro and colour temperature with the gaffer and the sparks.

Day two · rehearsal, blocking and technical testing

You read the actual risk assessment: staged-combat protocol, exclusion zones, the articles of faith and dress that affect PPE (personal protective equipment), and the fact that anyone on the floor can call a stop. The DoP lights the scene in front of you and says why.

Day three · the simulation shoot

Standby, turn over, sound speed, camera speed, mark it, action. Coverage, resets, continuity, a stabilised move and a track. You leave with a credit on the simulation, footage and named referees.

Film · to come

The three days compressed — prep, shoot, wrap — with the call sheet visible.

The practical bits, in one place

The stages · 3 Mills stages are dry hire: power, house lights, heat and nothing else. Everything else arrives with us.

Prayer and food · Prayer breaks on the call sheet at the times they fall, a quiet space held all day, halal and kosher sourced separately.

Cost · None, travel paid before you travel. See what we cover. The next cohort is published as it opens.
